Many sports require or suggest the use of protective sports eyewear, but the inherent nature of these sports require a precise view of what you are doing. Two such sports are shooting and driving. A simple straight plastic lens would not do well in sports like shooting and driving, where precision eyesight and precision movement are mandatory.
While a simple plastic lens will protect your eye from the dangers of competition shooting, it’s not the most desirable piece of sports eyewear. The reason for this is because the straight plastic lens will distort your view just slightly. And if your eyesight is not dead on, then that slight degree of change in vision at your eye will be magnified as your bullet travels down the range and misses the target. No, when your sport is shooting, a curved glass lens in your sports eyewear is much more desirable. All of the shooting sports are the same way, hunting, target, trap or skeet, they all require precision viewing that should not be distorted at all by the mandatory sports eyewear you use to keep your eyes safe while participating in the shooting sports.
Driving sports are another set of sports where the athletes participating benefit greatly from the use of sports eyewear, but need that eyewear to not impair their sight in any way and give them precision viewing of what they are doing. Sometimes it is only a fraction of an inch that separates your race car from the one you are passing. The same is true of the difference of your knee-scraping sport bike in a hair pin turn returning upright as you exit the turn, or flying out from under you at 110 mph. Being able to see precisely what you are doing is paramount in these driving sports, and so the sports eyewear you choose should provide the protection your eyes need while still allowing for the precision eyesight that will save your life.
Whether you partake in the shooting sports or the driving sports, precision sports eyewear is a must have before you stare down your target or look through your next turn.
